Hidden Safari

This project consisted of identifying the many animals that would be seen on an African Safari. To view the animal behind this project students would create "magic ruby red glasses". The students begin by making their animals for the safari with cool colored ink. They then top the painting with multiple layers of patterned warm colors-in my project I used leaves, squares, lines, and circles. The students would then go on a safari with the other students using their magic glasses.
This lesson could be combined with lessons in Geography: discussing where the safari would take place, Language Arts: writing stories about their adventure on an African Safari, or Reading when discussing published stories for more advanced students. This could be used for all ages, but would need to modify each part as we did in class with the glasses for each age level. The hidden picture could also be used throughout each subject, with modifications.
